So I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one is going to tell my story but me.'

The irony of being an artist is that I have huge insecurities. People are shocked when they hear that I think my legs are fat or that I don't look pretty. We all have insecurities. She also told Oprah about a fundamental principle that influences her life. "Each of us is responsible for everything that happens in our lives. When good things happen—we win an award, meet the love of our life, or get a promotion—we hold ourselves accountable. But when bad things happen—we get fired or get divorced—we often don't take responsibility. We call it something that just happened. Now I understand that just as we can bring out the positive, we can also bring out the negative," she said.
