Dr. Brian Gerard Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund
This bag was made by friends and family of Dr. Brian Gerard Adams, in his memory. A $500.00 scholarship is available upon application after completing the second year of medical school. Recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is awarded by the Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards of the Senate, acting on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Awards, Scholarships and Scholarships of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Memorial Scholarship Lynette Adams
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Lynette Adams (MD 1997) through a generous donation from Dr. Corey Adams and her family and friends. Lynette has been a passionate, patient-focused rural GP for over twenty years. She drew on her personal experience with breast cancer to counsel and care for patients in similar circumstances. Her spirit lives on in the lives of her three daughters and in the memories of patients, friends and family. The scholarship is assessed as a portion of the foundation's income and is awarded annually to one full-time student in each year of a post-secondary MD program in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland. This scholarship is awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards, upon the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
Committee for awarding special awards on alcohol and drug addiction
These awards were created in memory of the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Commission (1982-1992). In an effort to promote the completion of addiction studies across disciplines, beneficiaries are expected to pursue careers in addiction-related fields. Up to three awards, each valued at $750.00, are available annually to students who have completed significant or published work at the undergraduate or graduate level or who are completing a graduate thesis on addiction topics. The award is given alternately to students in pharmacy, nursing, medicine, and social work, with a college or school receiving only one award in a given scholarship year. These awards are made by the Senate for Graduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards Committee on the recommendation of the Dean/Principal/Chair of the respective college or school.
Dennis Morgan (1980 class) commemorative bag
This scholarship was created in recognition of Dr. Dennis Morgan, both graduates of the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine in 1980, who both went on to successful careers as cardiologists. dr. Almond is trained in interventional cardiology and is highly regarded for his clinical experience and teaching skills. Among his many professional achievements, Dr. Almond helped establish the renowned interventional cardiology program at London Health Science Centre. dr. Morgan, who attended medical school on a scholarship, worked across Canada while maintaining strong ties to his home in Newfoundland. He trained in echocardiography with a special interest in left ventricular function and was much loved by patients, colleagues, family and friends. Both doctors were known for their compassion and ability to help patients feel comfortable and empowered in their care. Their families encourage recipients of this scholarship to balance their careers in medicine with personal pursuits and relationships that bring them happiness. The scholarship is assessed as part of the foundation's income and is awarded annually to one student from Newfoundland and Labrador who has completed the third year of the MD program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated excellence in academic and clinical skills. Prize in psychiatry
This award is given by the Discipline of Psychiatry. It is awarded to the student who has excelled the most in the field of psychiatry during the central rotations of the medical doctorate. The award is worth $500 and is awarded annually. The recipient is in the fourth year of this program and meets the minimum academic requirements for the award, as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland. dr. Andrew Bagby and Zachary Andrew Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Andrew Bagby and his son Zachary by David and Kathleen Bagby, Andrew's parents. The recipient must have an engaging demeanor and be able to interact with people of all skill levels as this was unique to Dr. Bagby. Assessed based on a portion of the endowment's proceeds, the award is given annually to a medical school graduate who best exemplifies the qualities Andrew embodied: a positive and caring attitude, a sense of friendship, a passion for life, supporting others with genuine concern, and wanting to positively impact the lives of those around them. a classmate. Bartellas Family Award for Innovation in Medicine
This award was established thanks to the support of Dr. Elias Bartellas, MD, FRCS(C), DABOG. dr. Bartellas was born in Cyprus and received his medical degree from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He completed residency programs in obstetrics and gynecology in Israel and at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he worked as an associate professor. dr. Bartellas has been recognized provincially and nationally for his excellence in teaching and mentoring. With intensive practice in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Bartellas was a pioneer in innovation, simulation and implementation of new medical technologies in his field. Together with his wife, Dr. Maeve Kelly, a pediatrician and clinical assistant professor, they have raised three children who have followed in their parents' footsteps at Memorial University School of Medicine and continue the family legacy of innovation. This award recognizes students engaged in innovative activities with the potential to improve healthcare. The award is determined as a part of the income from the donation and is awarded once a year to a student in the first or second year of medical doctoral studies. Students can apply by submitting an application form with a description of their innovative activity to the Student Office of the Faculty of Medicine. The winner must meet the minimum academic requirements for the award, as defined by the university. This award is given by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, upon the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
Erika Bartlett Bolsa Memorial
This scholarship is the result of a donation to the University, funded by donations from family and friends of the Bartlett family, as well as students, staff and faculty of the Faculty of Medicine. This scholarship is valued at a portion of the annual interest that accrues on the grant and is available to an employee and medical student every other year. The Erika Bartlett Scholarship is administered by the Senate Committee on Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, and is awarded on the recommendation of the Dean of the School of Medicine. Applications are made in the Student Department of the Faculty of Medicine.
Criteria for selecting team members
To be qualified, a candidate must:
- Fill out the appropriate application form,
- Full-time employment at the Faculty of Medicine,
- Use the scholarship to finance undergraduate studies,
- At the end of the course, submit a note to the selection committee.
Selection criteria for medical students
To be eligible, a student must:
- Be enrolled in the fourth year of the Faculty of Medicine.
- Affiliated with graduate program in oncology (medicine/surgery/radiology). If the student does not fit the oncology course, the beneficiary will be selected by the selection committee.
Dr. William Bavington Rural/Community Visit Award
This award is presented by the Department of Public Health and Humanities at the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine in honor of Dr. Bavington joined the Department of Public Health and Humanities after many years working in general practice and rural community health care. rural areas, both internationally and in Newfoundland and Labrador. He brought with him an interest in continuing and improving the education of medical students about community health in general, and rural health care in particular, through practical experiences such as visiting a rural community. dr. Bavington also chaired the First Rural Medical Education Subcommittee (RUMEC) (1995-2001). The $500 award is given annually to a student who completes a report on a rural/community Community Health and Humanities visit during the first year of the MD program. All rural/community visit reports relating to two-week visits to rural communities will be considered. Reports are evaluated based on originality, scientific value, presentation and overall contribution to the health of the rural community. The recommendations of the recipients are accepted by the vice dean for public health and humanities. Gina D. Blundon Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Gina Doreen Blundon of Carbonear, Newfoundland, who died suddenly on May 18, 2001. Gina was a member of the Medical Class of 2004 at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and her colleagues, relatives and friends would like to honor her spirit by setting this price. It is valued as part of the income from the donation and is awarded annually to a medical school student at the Faculty of Medicine, through a nomination process. Any member of the healthcare team who has interacted with medical students can nominate for this award. The recipient must have a positive and caring attitude and contribute to the quality of student life while meeting the minimum academic requirements for the award as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland. This scholarship was made possible by a donation from Mrs. Jeanette Callahan in memory of Dr. George Callahan, who passed away prematurely on June 5, 1979. Callahan is remembered as a remarkable human being and a great doctor. He worked as a family doctor with privileges at St. Michael's in Toronto and led the first medical business practice in downtown Toronto. His early family practice reflected an era of home visits and a black leather bag that held medicine and equipment. There were many instances in his life where he helped medical students or interns who had financial difficulties. He did it without expecting compensation. The scholarship is assessed as part of the foundation's income and is awarded annually to one student in the MD program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Donald Cant Essay Prize
The Donald Cant Essay Prize, assessed on a portion of the scholarship proceeds, is awarded to a student for research and writing an original essay, suitable for publication, on a particular aspect of the history of medicine. The award is open to all students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program. The award is made by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, on the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards Advisory Committee.
Integrated Regional Central Authority for Health and Science Dr. J.F.
The award is presented annually to alumni of the former Midwest Council. The annual income will be awarded as a scholarship to a student of any year from the former Midwest region who demonstrates greater need and who, in the opinion of the principal, has demonstrated satisfactory academic performance. If for any reason the scholarship is not awarded, the entire amount is returned to the fund, and the awarding will take place the following year in the usual way. It is awarded by the Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards of the Senate, acting on the decision of the Advisory Committee on Awards, Scholarships and Scholarships of the Dean of Medicine. Applications can be submitted in September each year.

This award is made possible by a generous donation from the Glenn's Helping Hand Foundation, in memory of Glenn Chatman. Glenn was a kind, loving, sentimental young man with a perpetual smile. These awards are made possible by donations from alumni and friends who wish to support the success of students at the University of Newfoundland School of Medicine. Guided by the vision of Dr. James Rourke (Dean, 2004-2016), these awards recognize the exceptional contributions of full-time students enrolled in the School of Medicine's undergraduate and graduate programs who are working diligently to build a healthy future. The amount available for these awards will be assessed as part of the proceeds of the donation. However, it is up to the dean of the Faculty of Medicine to determine the location of the awards for bachelor's or master's students. To qualify for these awards, students must submit an application describing how they are contributing to building a healthy future. Along with the application, students can attach a statement of financial needs. Applications for undergraduate medical students are received by the secretary for student affairs, and for graduate students by the secretary for scientific and graduate studies. Scholarship for admission to the MD Oncology discipline
This scholarship is made possible by an annual donation from members of the oncology discipline. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 per year and is awarded to a student enrolled in a doctoral program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Members of the Discipline of Oncology are committed to giving back to the university and are proud to support students entering medical school with this scholarship. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship set by the university. Craig L. Dobbin Scholarship in Medicine
The Craig L. Dobbin Fellowship in Medicine is made possible by a generous donation through Dare To: The Campaign for Memorial University, in memory of Dr. Scholarships are awarded to full-time students in the School of Medicine. Scholarships are available each year and benefit medical students who have exhausted all other means of support and are still experiencing financial difficulties. To apply, students must write a letter outlining their financial need and complete a scholarship application form. The number and value of scholarships available each year will depend on available funds for expenses (according to university policies) and will be determined at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Medicine. Wesley and Jeanne Drodge Award in Simulation
This award is made possible by a generous donation from Wesley and Jeanne Drodge. Drodge was project manager for the construction of the Health Sciences Center and School of Medicine in the early 1970s, as well as the expanded Medical Education Center and the Craig L. Dobbin Center for Genetic Research, which opened in 2014. As a former Healthcare CEO, he is interested in supporting students as they learn to become more adept at using simulation technologies. It is assessed as part of the foundation's income and is awarded annually to two doctoral students who demonstrate the use of simulation technology in healthcare by giving presentations at medical conferences. Hunter W. Earle Memorial Fellowship in Medicine
This scholarship is made possible by funds from the Memorial Fund established by colleagues of the late Dr. Hunter W. Earle and a generous gift from Mrs. Evaluated. As part of the publishing income, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has completed the third year of medical doctorate studies. This award was made possible by a generous gift from Dr. Donald Eddy and Mrs. Carolyn Eddy for promoting interest in the broad field of family medicine and promoting care for the whole patient from birth to death. It is valued as part of the income from donations and is awarded annually to a 4th year medical student who has accepted the specialization in family medicine. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for the award, as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland, and will be selected by peers as their primary care physician. dr. a bag. Harry W. Edstrom in Medicine
The family, friends and colleagues of the late Dr. Harry W. Edstrom established this scholarship in his memory. dr. Edstrom was Professor of Medicine (Respirology) at Memorial University of Newfoundland and is known for his lifelong contributions to education and leadership in the medical profession. He was also the clinical chief of medicine for Eastern Health; Past President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association; Former Governor of the American College of Physicians; Former Director of the Canadian Medical Association and recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2002. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student based on academic performance during the third and fourth years of the MD program. The recipient would demonstrate leadership during their medical studies and meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards, on the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
Emergency Medicine Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Emergency Medicine Discipline and Emergency Medicine Community of Newfoundland and Labrador. At a cost of $500, the scholarship is awarded annually on a rotating basis between the School of Medicine and the Graduate Nursing Program of the College of Nursing at Memorial University College of Nursing (MUNFON), Center for Nursing Studies (CNS), or Western Regional. School of Nursing (WRSON). In the years in which the scholarship is awarded to a student of the Faculty of Medicine, the beneficiaries must be in the stage of medical doctor's internship (3rd or 4th year). In the years when a student of the Faculty of Nursing is awarded a scholarship, the scholarship holders must be in the clinical year of nursing studies (3rd or 4th year). In both cases preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated interest in emergency medicine who demonstrates the qualities of compassion and professionalism. The beneficiary must meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship as determined by the university. This scholarship is awarded out of a bequest to Memorial University of Newfoundland by the late Mrs. Bella Levkovitz. It is assessed as part of the endowment's income and awarded annually to a student based on outstanding academic performance during the second year of the MD program. The beneficiary must be in the third year of this program and meet the minimum academic requirements to receive the scholarship. It is awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards based on the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.

This scholarship is the result of a donation that resulted from numerous general donations to the Opportunity Fund from various alumni and friends of Memorial University of Newfoundland, particularly the School of Medicine. Frank & Pat Fagan Family Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Community Leadership
This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from Frank and Pat Fagan. Frank, Pat and their two sons, Andrew and Richard, graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Frank and Pat have been involved in community activities throughout their lives to improve the lives of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. As a family, they strongly believe in the importance of education, as well as community involvement and volunteering. The Fagan family would like to express their gratitude for the quality of education they all received at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the opportunities it provided. This prestigious scholarship is awarded annually to an academically outstanding student (top 10 in class) who has completed the Pre-Office MD component of the program and has demonstrated significant results in community leadership either before or during the program. Only residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are eligible to apply. The scholarship will be paid to the beneficiary in two installments, one at the end of the second year, and the second during the third year of medical school. The recipient will be known as a 'Fagan Family Scholar'. This award was established by the Newfoundland Memorial University Medical Student Association in honor of Dr. Fagan was known among his peers for his sense of adventure. This award is valued as part of the investment income and will help offset the costs required to attend the medical conference. The award is given annually to a student who will attend a medical conference during their first, second or third medical degree. This award was made possible by a bequest from the estate of Dr. Bruce A. Fraser, who was professor of anatomy at the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine from 1979-1992. The award, which is worth part of the scholarship income, is available to two or three medical students undertaking internship electives in the UK and/or Ireland. If no student completes a UK or Irish elective in a given year, an award will be considered for the completion of other international electives. Two awards, each valued at US$500, are awarded annually to students enrolled in an MD program who wish to pursue an internationally elective education in a resource-constrained environment. Students must demonstrate their commitment to global health and health equity throughout their medical education program through participation and leadership in activities that promote learning and action related to health equity. dr. Wulf Grobin Memorial Fund in Medicine
This scholarship was established by Ida Parsons in memory of Dr. Grobin, a compassionate physician and humanitarian. dr. Grobin was born in Latvia and studied in Switzerland, England and Scotland before moving to Newfoundland. He practiced medicine in Brooklyn, Bonavista Bay from 1938 to 1943, and in St. John from 1945 to 1958, when he and his family moved to Toronto. There he continued his medical career in the field of diabetes and the elderly. He had many interesting medical and personal experiences as an outpatient and developed a great love and affection for Terra Nova and the citizens of Terra Nova that lasted until his death in March 2001. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Corner Brook where she would eventually meet the love of her life, Frank Gronich. They ran a flower shop in Corner Brook for ten years and later moved to St. John's where he attended Memorial University of Newfoundland, while she worked in the Department of Folklore. They moved to Halifax while Frank attended Dalhousie Law School and returned to St. John's to take on the role of Attorney General at the Department of Justice. They enjoyed many happy years of retirement before passing away in 2015. This scholarship reflects their shared belief in the importance of education. This scholarship was established by the bequest of Eagle LM Jones (1929-2015) of Prince Edward Island (PEI). Orlo earned a degree in medical laboratory technology from PEI and continued his education at Rutgers University's Douglass College with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has worked and taught in the field of laboratory technology in Canada and the United States. In 1964 she returned to PEI and taught in the Summerside schools. Orlo was also known for her expertise in genealogy, especially Loyalist history. Assessed as part of the foundation's income, one or more scholarships will be awarded annually to students enrolled in the MD program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Students must have completed high school in a rural area of Atlantic Canada and meet the minimum academic scholarship requirements set by the university. Arch McNamara, a doctor loved by St. John's for many years, the true meaning of patient care. Arch's family and friends remember him for his generosity, humor, zest for life and involvement with his family. Arch did an internship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa, and a fellowship in vitreoretinal disease at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He became a pioneer in the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity with a prospective randomized clinical trial published in 1991 in the journal Ophthalmology entitled “Laser Photocoagulation for Stage 3+ Retinopathy of Prematurity”. Medical Practice Associates, the professional association of all full-time clinical faculty members of the School of Medicine, annually awards three prestigious postgraduate scholarships. These scholarships are valued at $1,500.00 in the 1st and 2nd medical years and $2,000.00 in the 4th medical year. They are awarded to students who achieve the highest overall marks in each of the 1st, 2nd and 4th years of medical studies up to graduation. The scholarship for the 4th year of study is awarded to the recipient of the University Medal for Academic Excellence in Medicine. The School of Medicine Essay Award is supported by K.B. Roberts Scholarship Fund, which was established in appreciation of the contributions of Dr. Kenneth Roberts to the School of Medicine. For ten years, Nguyên was a clinical specialist in infectious diseases at St. John's and was known for his dedication to patients and teaching. Born in Huê in central Vietnam, he became one of the "Vietnamese skippers" and arrived in Canada in 1975. While studying internal medicine at the University of Toronto, Dr. Nguyên has a lifelong passion for clinical infectious diseases and tropical medicine. He was an assistant professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine and an adult infectious disease specialist at the Health Sciences Center, a physician or graduate resident taking a national or international infectious disease elective. This scholarship is assessed based on a portion of the foundation's income and is awarded annually. In recognition of the contribution of Dr. H.D. Roberts, upon completion of the MD program, the scholarship will be awarded to a student with good academic standing. The award is given annually to a medical student for the best performance in clinical skills in the second year. The value of this scholarship is determined by the annual income from the initial donation. This scholarship is made possible by Dr. Robert B. Salter, former professor and chief of orthopedic surgery at the University of Toronto. The scholarship was established as a result of Dr. Salter's long association with the Grenfell Medical Mission of Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as his continued academic interest in the Newfoundland Memorial University School of Medicine. The award is determined by a portion of the income from donations and is awarded annually to the student who, in the opinion of the Faculty, has best demonstrated the qualities of personal compassion and kindness towards patients in the third year of his doctor of medicine studies - qualities that characterized the life of the late Sir Wilfred Grenfell. Preference will be given to students born in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipient is in the fourth year of this program and meets the minimum academic requirements for receiving the award. dr. Tom Scott Award for Surgery in Anatomy
This award is made possible by the generous support of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. This award recognizes Dr. Tom Scott's leadership in anatomy and undergraduate education at the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine. Scott served as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies from 1998 to 2004, and his passion for teaching anatomy was recognized when he received the 1995 Presidential Distinguished Teaching Award. The award is assessed as part of the foundation's income and is awarded annually to a student who has demonstrated a high level of achievement in anatomy during the first year of medical doctorate. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic requirements for the award, as defined by the university. Layton and Thelma Smallwood Scholarship in Medicine
The Layton and Thelma Smallwood Medical Fellowship is funded by a donation from the Smallwood family (Cathy, Ray, Melissa, Amanda and Matthew). Layton and Thelma come from humble backgrounds, growing up in rural Prince Edward Island. They were extremely hard workers and very generous members of their community. They believed that personal development through formal education, as well as the general acquisition of knowledge through informal means, were fundamental to individual success and the achievement of many personal goals. Layton and Thelma Smallwood had a granddaughter who attended the University of Newfoundland School of Medicine, so it is fitting that her generosity and belief in education should be honored with a scholarship in her name. The scholarship is estimated as part of the revenue of the publication and is awarded once a year to a student who has completed the first or second year of a doctorate in medicine. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic scholarship requirements set by the university. This scholarship is awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards, upon the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
Health and wellness scholarship for doctors and medical students
The Health and Wellbeing Fellowship for Physicians and Medical Students provides at least one month of academic experience to conduct research and design on a specific aspect of physician well-being in medicine. The project may include academic research; evaluation of health and wellness programs in the medical profession; or the creation of literature or other art inspired by this theme. This will result in the creation of a final output that may be suitable for evaluation and presentation at a medical education meeting, conference and/or suitable for submission for publication. The donor will have the opportunity to see the result. Valued at $3,000, it is open to all undergraduate medical students. Applications are submitted at the Student Secretariat of the Faculty of Medicine. This award is given by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, upon the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
1984 Autism Education and Research Team Award
This award was established by donations from the class and friends of the Faculty of Medicine in 1984. Initiated by the fundraising efforts of Dr. Peter Bartlett et al. Richard Hu, the award aims to advance education and research in the field of autism spectrum disorders and related cognitive development. Estimated based on a portion of the foundation's income, it is awarded annually to a student in the MD program who has demonstrated an interest in teaching or research in the area of autism spectrum disorders or related cognitive development. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements to receive the award. Applications are made in the Student Department of the Faculty of Medicine. This award is given by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, upon the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine's Advisory Committee on Scholarships, Scholarships and Awards.
Diploma award for professional studies
The Graduate Professional Studies Award was established by Mr. Alan Rowe (B.Comm. '78) through a generous donation to the Dare To campaign. Eligible applicants must be Indigenous students from Labrador or the Canadian territories enrolled full-time in the year of enrollment in an undergraduate professional program. Each year, two new users will be chosen on a rotating basis from the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Pharmacy and Social Work. The award is valued at $2,500 per year and may be extended for up to three additional years (four years total) if the recipient remains enrolled full-time in a professional degree program and maintains clear academic standing as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland. . If the candidate approved for enrollment in the professional program is not a subject that is changed in a certain year, a student who meets the requirements can be chosen from one of the other subjects. If no eligible student is identified in the year of participation in the professional program, the award may be awarded to a student who exceeds the entry level for the professional program. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. The award is made, as appropriate, by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards in consultation with the Indigenous Student Resource Centre.

This scholarship is made possible by a grant from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, in honor of Dr. Robert W. Young for his many years of service as a College Clerk. dr. Young served the faculty for thirty-eight years with an unwavering commitment to professional, compassionate, ethical, caring and fair care for the patients of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is assessed as part of the income from the donation and is awarded annually to a student in the fourth year of the medical doctorate. To be eligible for this scholarship, students would be nominated by a member of the teaching staff. This mark would show that the student is an example of Dr. Young characteristics. Selection will be based on strength of nomination and academic standing. Applications must be submitted to the Student Office no later than September of the fourth year of the student's study program. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for the scholarship.
